It was inhabited since ancient times under the name of Aeginio. Every year more than 2,000,000 tourists visit it. Just after Kalambaka is the picturesque village of Kastraki, which stretches out at the base of the giant rocks of Meteora. The imposing, juxtaposed rocks, whose height in some cases reaches 400 meters, are a unique geological phenomenon. They cover an area of approximately thirty square kilometers.
