About this Event
The Compaq Big Band is excited to take a quick break from our busy Summer 2023 outdoor concert season to perform INDOORS in gorgeous Newburyport, Massachusetts on Wednesday evening August 2nd. We’re featured at a very special Northshore Swing Dance *FREE* midsummer event!
The venue Is historic City Hall, in the heart of downtown Newburyport. All ages and abilities, singles, couples, and groups are enthusiastically welcomed - no experience necessary. If you’re new to swing dancing, or just curious to try it out, these Northshore Swing Dance nights always have a group-friendly introductory lesson beforehand. And, with no admission fee, THIS is the dance to see if you like it ;)
The lesson is on 6:30pm-7:30pm, and the band plays 7:30pm-9:30pm.
Newburyport City Hall is located at 60 Pleasant Street. Plenty of free/inexpensive on-street and lot parking (Green Street Lot just around the corner).
Great choices for sustenance and libation abound in Newburyport, all within just a couple blocks’ walk of the dance. This event will be during Yankee Homecoming week in Newburyport, so cruisin’ all the specials at the local shops, plus dinner/drinks before and/or after the dance will complete this perfect mid-week getaway – but, we’d recommend making early dinner reservations NOW ;)
With us on August 2nd will be supremely talented jazz vocalist Lauren Meehan, channelin’ Ella Fitzgerald, Natalie Cole, and more. Plus, we’ll sprinkle in some swingin’ instrumentals and maybe a non-swing chart or two.

Glad to not be dodging any ‘potential scattered showers & thunderstorms’ for one gig will be regulars John Finocchiaro, Chris Hildebrand, Scott Tringali, Jerry Griep, Scott Taylor, Kurt Thaller, Andrew Collins, Ofer Cohen, Bryan Hilliard, Bruce D. McLeod, Kyle Emmie, Peter Sokolowski, Gil Bristol, Dave King, Michelle Hirsch, and Jeff Hagan, plus super-subs Nate Jorgensen, Richie Thaller, and Barry Singer.
