About this Event

January 16, 1938 was a legendary day for swing music lovers. Benny Goodman's Orchestra played the famed Carnegie Hall and, immediately following his band's performance, Count Basie's band battled Chick Webb's band at The Savoy Ballroom. Our program begins with Kyle Smith presenting an interactive talk about that extraordinary evening from 6:30-7:30pm. For those wanting a beginner swing dance lesson, we'll have a 30 minute lesson in the back immediately following from 7:30-8:00pm. Then the Hot Tomatoes Dance Orchestra will play three sets separately dedicated to the music of Count Basie, Chick Webb and Benny Goodman's bands from 8:00-11:00pm. Get ready to revel in and dance to the swing music of 1938 at the VFW Post No. 1 at 841 Santa Fe Drive. Capacity is limited, so please purchase your ticket now! Tickets are $20 for the dance and talk, $15 for the dance-only when you pre-purchase online. At the door, it's $25 for the dance and talk, $20 for the dance-only, $10 for the talk-only. Doors open at 6:15pm. We'll also feature non-alcoholic beverages from Colorado companies.
