BMC DANCE LAB with Cathie Caraker Body-Mind Centering® (BMC) is an innovative approach to dance / movement education which explores the experiential anatomy of the body and its innate states of movement and mind. We'll investigate the qualities of our diverse body systems through touch and movement, following our curiosity and kinesthetic appetite to expand our range of expression. We'll also immerse ourselves in developmental movement states and reflexes to find more efficiency and freedom in our dancing. Intentional touch, partnering work and improvisation will be some of our tools in this laboratory. CONTACT IMPROVISATION: 7 sublime habits for advanced Contact with Scott Wells This year I will be focusing on unique exercises I’ve developed through decades of Contact and choreography. However, I think it’s important in this co-taught workshop to see what fits the needs and desires of the students. Our focus may turn to flying (aerial interactions involving physical contact) and/or improvisational scores. While students are sometimes tentative about improvisational performance, the process can be very engaging and a great way to connect with each other. She teaches, choreographs and performs her solo work and collaborations at dance programs, festivals and theaters internationally. She was on the faculty of the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam from 1994 - 2006, where she refined her approach to applying the Body-Mind Centering® (BMC) work to dance education and choreographic process. A certified BMC Practitioner since 1990, she also holds an MFA in Dance from Bennington College. Her writings on BMC as a somatic approach to dance education have been published in the Belgian dance journal Nouvelles de Danse. He stuck with both and currently directs a company in San Francisco. Scott has trained extensively in contemporary dance and the Alexander technique and holds an MFA in Dance. In 2010 and 2005 Scott received Isadora Duncan Awards for Outstanding Choreography and was selected by Dance Magazine as "One of 25 to Watch in 2005". Scott has taught contact at the most prestigious festivals in Europe, has taught ballet dancers at the San Francisco Dance Conservatory and actors at A.C.T. He is currently an artist in residence at ODC and a mentor for CHIME.
