Present
Só Kizomba: a new year resolution: Let’s raise standards! Learn Kizomba with us in 2017 and become a better dancer with clear understanding of syllabus, dance floor ethics and with a fun group spirit!
WHAT DO YOU MEAN? We’ve decided to switch up a gear and offer kizomba dance classes within a structured course. Yes! Most dancers in Europe learn in courses. This allows for a better technique, more consistency and a greater groups dynamic.
Here are 5 reasons why we believe this is a better choice:
1 - We want you to have a better learning experience with:
Clearer objectives
Better continuity
Faster progress (based on regular attendance)
2 - A structured environment with the same instructors throughout the course. Course participants will also have access to extra resources and a more interactive learning experience.
3 - It provides a more cohesive social experience, where people can nurture friendships and the passion for dancing in an encouraging and non competitive environment.
4 - Just as we do now, we will continue to deliver 3 to 4 concurrent levels every Wednesday, allowing students to progress from one level to another, at their pace.
5 - We have done it for years, check below for historical context and references, or for more testimonials, visit www.studioafrolatino.com
WHY THE CHANGE? When we opened this weekly kizomba social night in 2008, there was very little kizomba, if any, played outside community circles. Fast forward 8 years and there are now many classes in cities across the UK, most of them in pubs & clubs, most of them on a drop-in basis. This also happens in Salsa. As a result, the general level of Salsa, and now of Kizomba in the UK doesn’t tend to be very high as proven by the lack of presence in international festivals for example. We’ve observed this for years and have identified the “dropping in” culture as a major contributor as to why students don’t progress as far. So….let’s change it!!
WHAT ABOUT THE MUSIC? After the class, there’s the party! The after class social is not only a great opportunity to practice after class but an essential of anyone’s learning and progresses, whatever the level. Learning to dance is 50% class + 50% practice. Maximise your chances to progress and dance ‘till midnight. We choose DJs that have a good understanding of Kizomba and its influences. You may have a favourite DJ, but we believe that diversity is the key to keeping things fresh and exciting! We choose some of the best DJs in London, on rotation every week. Not sure where to get music for yourself? Pick up one of our compilations or ask your friendly DJs for references.
WHERE and WHEN? Só Kizomba Classes & Club are held at 229 The Venue @ 229 The Venue, 229 Great Portland Street, London W1W 5PN... This is one of London top music venues, centrally located, being only 10 minutes from Oxford Circus, Baker Street or Euston, with great transport links right outside the venue. It boasts a fantastic wooden floor, recently refurbished, and a top quality, bass-heavy sound system rarely experienced in London (the venue is known for hosting a lot of live music gigs) and air conditioning throughout.Nearest Tube station: Great Portland St (1 min walk).
