About this Event

If you haven't heard, we are sorry to inform you that our beloved Nancy Stark Smith passed away on Friday, May 1. She was the co-founder and committed teacher, writer, and researcher of Contact Improvisation, co-editor of Contact Quarterly, developer of the Underscore, and a mentor, role model, and friend to many. In the absence of being able to convene in person to share physical space and contact, we are inviting you to join us in streaming our gratitude for Nancy's life and work over Zoom with a Sharing and Thanksgiving (similar to the the last phase/glyph of the Underscore). If you would like to remember, grieve, honor, celebrate, or learn about Nancy in community, we hope you will attend. This even will take place via Zoom on Sunday 5/17 1-3pm EDT: ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED: https://muhlenberg.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMpcemoqDsvG9A3lM8ROMvhjMDpNN6ngrIh Digital arriving starts at 12:50 PM in the Zoom room. We can give thanks and share our experiences with her or her work. We can grieve, listen, and move together in her honor across digital/virtual space. We will be streaming gratitude. All are welcome who feel a connection to Nancy Stark Smith or her work, and who feel connected to the greater Philadelphia area either presently or previously. Ci facilitators and students of Nancy Loren Groenendaal, Jenny Sawyer, and Julia Wallace will be facilitating this afternoon experience. We hope to connect with you soon. This event is free, but Contact Quarterly is accepting donations in her name: https://contactquarterly.com/donate/index.php If you would like to share your memories in visual or verbal format more widely, Contact Quarterly has set up Nancy Stark Smith Harvest, a public group on Facebook for sharing memories: https://www.facebook.com/groups/253550916049874/ Again, BE SURE TO REGISTER IN ADVANCE WITH THIS LINK TO GET THE MEETING LINK: https://muhlenberg.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMpcemoqDsvG9A3lM8ROMvhjMDpNN6ngrIh Some UPDATES from your hosts: - Please bring your sharing in the form of your favorite media to remember or give gratitude for Nancy Stark Smith on Sunday. In addition to speech, you may share photos, a song, a poem, a dance, etc. These can be planned or improvised, but should take 5 minutes or less per person. If you want to share pre-recorded on visual media, please have it ready for Zoom time. - It is ideal to set up your zooming device in space where you can be comfortable with talking, standing, and moving and be dressed in a manner that is comfortable for movement. - You are invited to bring water and food as grieving can be taxing and dehydrating, and it is traditional to snack during the Sharing/Thanksgiving phase of the Underscore. - You are encouraged to bring something to write with and on for some journaling time in Reflection / Harvest.
