A Side of Blues

Saturday night blues music in our Side Room for you to dance to! Whether you want to do Blues Dancing, Lindy, Fusion, West Coast Swing or whatever dances you love, we hope that you find common ground with your partner and enjoy dancing to beautiful music. This week kicks off a new series class at 7pm! Details below. At 8 pm we'll have a blues dance lesson. No partner or experience is needed. At 9 pm our DJs will play some amazing blues-based music and we'll have a blast dancing. $20 for the lesson and dance $12 for the dance only Free for studio members Blues Dance Intermediate Series: Jukin’ the Blues Starting July 5th, we launch a new four week intermediate series class. Get ready to groove! This four-week intermediate blues dance series focuses on jukin’—a style of blues dance borne in juke joints in the Southern US and known for its rhythmic footwork, grounded posture, and funky moves. Each week, we’ll build on the fundamentals of jukin’ with an emphasis on tuning your blues musicality, playing with polyrhythms, and practicing conversational dance. You’ll deepen your understanding of pulse and lag, learn how to creatively interpret the musical stylings of Chicago blues, and practice dynamic partner connection like call-and-response. By the end of the series, you’ll have a stronger grasp on jukin’ fundamentals, be more confident dancing, and be ready to hit the floor feeling musical and bluesy. Prerequisites: This series is geared toward dancers with a grasp of blues dance fundamentals. You should be comfortable with pulse, partner connection, and basic blues movement. You can join the series in the first or second week, but we encourage everyone to attend all four classes. This series is included with studio memberships and is part of the regular blues dance pricing. If you are in the series class, you can attend the 8pm drop-in class also for the same pricing.
