Act-Belong-Commit SW Multicultural Festival

This annual festival in Bunbury is a true celebration of multiculturalism and diversity. From 3pm to 9pm the beautiful public space that is Bicentennial Square will be thriving with over 20 food trucks representing countries from all over the world. This year, for the first time, there is the opportunity to taste more than one cuisine. People will be able to purchase a plate and cutlery from the Bunbury Multicultural Group stall and approach a selected number of up to 4 stalls, receiving one portion from each, to give you a world on a plate experience. While enjoying the tastes of these cuisines people will be entertained with roving performers including a Mexican trio, A multilingual musician and Spanish Stilt Walkers. On the lawn a massive stretch tent will be erected for the MGM Bulk Experience Zone. This shaded area is where you get to interact and play. From 3pm to 7pm you can try your hand at the French game of Petanque, kids can have their face painted while learning about the flags of the world, learn about the Sikh culture and learn how to wrap a turban, get involved in Sri Lankan Sinhala dance workshops, participate in Tai Kwon Do demonstrations, have your eyebrows threaded or watch the magical art of it being done to someone else and watch a Maypole dance and loads more. In collaboration with the City of Bunbury Sister City Committee there will be a Shaded Cafe set up where you can enjoy your food in comfort. During the day workshops in this space will include Japanese Origami & Chinese Paper Cutting. The much anticipated and very special Flag Parade will begin at 5.30 before launching into the Multicultural Night Under the Stars from 6pm. The program is as follows: 5.45pm Welcome to Country/National Anthem Perth Sinhala School Dancers & Musicians 6.05pm Italian Musical Duo/ Bunbury Dance Studio Traditional Maori Group 6.30pm Treendale Japanese Drummers Classical Indian Dancers Chinese Vocalist Filipino Song & Dance Group 7.00pm Indigenous Cultural Performance Sol Y Sombra Spanish Dancers Burundi Peace Choir 7.35pm Polynesian Entertainers Mexican Trio Argentinian Soloist 8.00pm Chinese Dragon Performance French/Rio Dancers (TJB) Scottish Piper AND then the evening will conclude with the Bomba Latin Fusion Band. BLF does not hold back; the aim is to fill the dance floor right from the start. The repertoire varies from salsa, cumbia, Latin pop, reggae, Santana classics and their Latin take on pop classics by the likes of Michael Jackson, Sting, Men at Work, Crowded House and The Steve Miller Band. This will be the band to finish our beautiful festival. So come and join the Bunbury Multicultural Group committee for a day of colour, celebration and family.
