Advanced Charleston Workshop and Dance!

Join us Saturday, April 11 at Emmaus Church near Fountain Square for a Charleston Spotlight Saturday! We’ll be offering two 90-minute intermediate-advanced Charleston classes taught by Danny Beyrer & Mandy Hogan, followed by a dinner break and then evening social dance - “Drop Me Off in New Orleans” theme. Schedule 1:00 - 1:15 pm - Welcome 1:15 - 2:45 pm - Class session 1 2:45 - 3:00 pm - Break 3:00 - 4:30 pm - Class session 2 4:30 - 5:00 pm - Open practice 5:00 - 7:00 pm - Dinner break 7:00 - 10:30 pm - Social dance - NOLA theme Workshop Class Descriptions Instructors: Danny Beyrer & Mandy Hogan Class session 1 (1:15 - 2:45 pm): Leveling Up Your Charleston Basics Take your Charleston to the next level by refining strong fundamentals and honing moves that you already know. This class focuses on control, rhythm, and clean transitions to make your dancing smoother, sharper, and more confident. Class session 2 (3:00 - 4:30 pm): Flashy Charleston Moves & Tricky Transitions Build on your Charleston vocabulary with eye-catching variations and playful transitions that connect moves like Tandem, Airplanes, Skaters, and Sailor Kicks. This class emphasizes flow, musicality, and creativity so you can link patterns together with style on the social dance floor. Class Prerequisites: As this is an intermediate-advanced Charleston workshop, we request that class participants have taken Naptown Stomp Level 4 Charleston Lessons or be proficient in equivalent standard Charleston moves: basic side by side, tandem, airplanes, and S-turn. Dinner Break In keeping with the New Orleans theme, after the workshop we will form groups to gather for dinner at Tupelo Honey in downtown Indy, or Yats on Mass Ave! Social Dance From 7-10:30 pm, return to Emmaus for our evening social dance, “Drop Me Off in New Orleans” style! Our DJs will be spinning NOLA-style jazz and other music great for putting your new Charleston moves on the floor. Dress for a night in New Orleans, whether that’s vintage jazz club, second-line parade, or just your favorite dancing outfit with a little extra flair. Think stripes, suspenders, vests, feathers, purple/gold/green accents, or anything festive!
