About this Event

Topic: The Pivot (Re)visited Pivots are fundamental movements in tango and often taught in beginner classes. Like many aspects of tango, we must revisit this basic concept because poor technique can handicap other movements—like "ochos", turns, changes of direction, boleos, and even walks—that require clear and effortless pivots. Among the questions we’ll explore in this class: - Is there a lead for a pivot or...? - Should I lead/follow pivots with my hands or ...? - Should I pivot on the ball of my foot or ...? - Do pivots require momentum or ...? - Is there only one kind of pivot or ...? In addition, we’ll explore how to (re)build your dance to allow pivots in any situation which in turn can help you develop a more consistent and natural approach to your tango movement. Please bring your questions and curiosity. ------------ $10-15 per person (sliding scale of value) Teacher: Avik Basu A surgical tango thinker/dancer within our community, please explore what ideas Avik has to offer as ADT brings you what we need in Ann Arbor Tango -- higher level classes!
