Live2Dance is bringing once again Oscar Rousseaux for an Afro-Cuban Dance Drum Workshop. At the last workshop we were transported back into time reliving Afro-Cuban movement with Oscar's amazing skills and experience. You can't miss this amazing workshop. Workshop information: Oscar Rousseaux focuses on the different Afro-Cuban movements and their history behind it to allow the dancer feel and relive the original roots that make Afro-Cuban dancing. The class consists of Afro-Cuban body movements and steps while listening to live drumming and chanting. How long is the workshop: The workshop will last for 1hr and 1/2 from 1pm to 2:30pm. Please arrive 15 to 20 minutes for registration/signing in purposes. What to wear to the workshop: • Bring comfortable clothing that allows your body to move freely • You can wear jazz shoes, socks or be bare foot for this workshop. • Bring plenty of H20 to hydrate • Bring a small towel for your sweating needs Note: Dancer should come prepared to work and to sweat. This workshop is appropriate for multiple genres - Salsa on1, Salsa on2, Cuban Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Zouk. Instructor's Bio: Oscar Rousseaux is a graduate of Cuba’s prestigious National School of Art Instructors and danced for 5 years with one of Cuba’s premiere traditional dance companies, Compañía JJ. Since leaving Cuba in 1997, Rousseaux has travelled across the Americas and Europe, perfecting his art, mastering the batá drum, & developing a subtle awareness of the folkloric roots common to all countries of the Americas. After arriving in the DC area in 2003, Rousseaux rapidly gained fame on the local arts scene, not only for energetic & invigorating classes but also for colorful, engaging choreographies and charismatic performances. He has received kudos for his work as Director and Choreographer of ALAFIA Dance and Drum, the folkloric ensemble that Rousseaux leads through a broad repertoire of Cuban folklore and Latino dance. The company has been praised as much for its singing and live percussion as for its dancing.
