Afro Cuban Workshops - Ogun & Yemaya

Explore the rich cultural dances of Ogun and Yemaya. Add depth and variety to your repertoire with these unique styles! Learning the steps and moves of the orishas deepens the connection you have to Cuban Salsa and improves your musical knowledge, interpretation and over dance movement and skills. 11 am - Ogun is a traditional dance that honors the Yoruba warrior god Ogun; The dance moves are actually little stories showing Ogun cutting through the branches and forest to create and open the path with his machete, from this example you can actually understand that after destruction there is in the same time the creation of new path. You can still spot these moves in Cuba and surprisingly in the modern cuban salsa moves as in honour of Ogun. 12 pm - Yemaya Yemaya is the ocean, the dance steps involve wide sweeps with a long skirt. The yemaya dance has a lot of flow, and the same sense of calmness, confidence, and strength. Her movements are often considered standard for Timba freestyle both for men and women. Both men and women are encouraged to enrol to these courses as the focus will be on body movement, posture, flow and connection to rhythm.
