Afro Dance Workshops

Join us on June 10 for an afternoon of Afro Dance Workshops! In first hour, our Afro Street Dance workshop students will work on musicality heavily influenced by the rhythm and musical trends from Gabon Congo, Ivory Coast and beyond. The participants will receive the most authentic representation of these dances and explore movements from across the African continent. African street styles are incorporated into the backdrop of this heavily African traditional based technique. The cultural, social, and free-spirited side of this class creates an environment where students learn and have fun. The workshop will be led by Basko from Gabon (Central Africa), a professional afro dancer and instructor with a history of being deeply connected to the African dance culture. The second hour, our Cuban Rumba workshop, students will be accompanied by live drummers while learning the basics of rumba footwork, body movement techniques and understanding the structure of the music. The rumba is a mixture of African, Arabic and Spanish heritage. The music and movements of rumba in Cuba are mainly associated with African culture but also feature elements from Antillean culture and Spanish flamenco. The workshop will be led by Nadide and Óscar from Turkey and Colombia, a professional dancers and musicians with emphasis in education about the Latin culture.
