A 2x Salsa Champion, she holds a Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to Salsa as well as Kizomba in the UK. A coach in “Strictly Dance Fever" (BBC) she also choreographed and directed sold out show “El Barrio” a theatre production with Song, Salsa & Live percussion. A pioneer of Kizomba in the UK she created Studio Afro Latino dance academy to promote Kizomba & Afro-Luso Rhythms and was awarded a LUKAS award for best Kizomba Teacher voted by the public. As BATUKE's creative director, Iris is proposing to bring Afro Luso culture onto stage and change perceptions of viewing african related dance mainly as participatory. She will deliver an uplifting & holistic class - Afro Ginga - on Sunday 26th August, a body movement class focused on core elements of dances from the Congo basin and exploring how elemental forces and beliefs reflect in movement.
