About this Event

It’s was a busy spring and an even busier summer, but I’m thrilled to finally be holding the second of my pop-up classes, “Afro Latin Body Rolls!” Body rolls are some of the movements that connect modern day Afro-Latin dance to it’s African and Caribbean roots. When practiced and refined they give any dancer a more organic and soulful means of expression. And while they are meant to look as inspired as possible, they aren't random. Body rolls have a technique, a process, and they require the most important skill in ethnic dance…weight transfer. And the good news is that ANY and EVERYONE has the potential for developing these movements and the natural quality they can produce. We just need the right tools and a little consistent training. :) In this 90-minute Intensive, we will be breaking down a series of body roll movements found in Mambo and other Afro-Latin dances. We’ll begin with a warmup consisting of drills to introduce these different elements, followed by a breakdown of the mechanics involved and how to apply them. Then we’ll wrap things up by putting everything together in a short combination that can be used for training or on the dance floor! And as always, there will be an emphasis placed on weight transfer, structural preparation, and working the process of our steps in connection to the music. **DETAILS** Level: OPEN When: Saturday, Sept 22 from 1-2:30PM Where: Ripley Grier Studios 520 8th AVE Studio 17H Price: $25 per person Registration is welcome at the door or in advance via PayPal: paypal.me/LiaRobertson/25.
