IDALBERTO ALCALA - Born in Havana; Is an International Master of Cuban Dance, ex-Havana Night choreographer and performer and nine times winner of the World renown Havana Carnival for best choreography, costume design and music. However, Idalberto is often travelling throughout Europe for Cuban Dance Events and Shows, notably to Italy where he works with Latin Cuba. This AfroCuban fusion dance workshop is a mix of Rumba, Orishas , Congo dances , Tradicional cuban popular dances and this is what we call a Fusion . This type of Fusion is very important and unique style when you dance Cuban salsa because is the result of this "BIG FUSION". Salsa also occasionally incorporates elements of rock, R&B, and funk. All of these non-Cuban elements are grafted onto the basic Cuban son montuno template when performed within the context of salsa. The first salsa bands were predominantly Cubans and Puerto Ricans who moved to New York since the 1920s. The music eventually spread throughout Colombia and the rest of the Americas. Ultimately, it became a global phenomenon. Some of the founding salsa artists were Johnny Pacheco(the creator of the Fania All-Stars), Celia Cruz, Ray Barretto, Rubén Blades, Willie Colón, Larry Harlow, Roberto Roena, Bobby Valentín, Eddie Palmieri, and Héctor Lavoe.[12] Salsa is different everywhere. For example, singer Celia Cruz described her music as a Cuban style of salsa. Her music was aimed heavily towards the Afro-Latino communities. Her songs represent traditional Cuban sounds and customs. In the United States, there are multiple styles in different regions of the country. What is Rumba cubana ? Rumba in Cuba is associated with African culture but also features elements of Antillean culture and Spanish flamenco. A symbol of marginal Cuban society, the practice developed in poor neighbourhoods of cities, shanty towns and rural areas spreading from west to east of the country. Rumba in Cuba, with its chants, movements, gestures and music acts as an expression of resistance and self-esteem while evoking grace, sensuality and joy to connect people.
