RUMBA, MAKUTA & BEMBE ¡Ahi Na' Ma'! Join us for the first of two exciting Afro-Cuban music and dance workshops. Participants explore the history and components of songs rhythms and dance from the three forms of Cuban Rumba: Yambu, Guaguanco and Columbia, as well as Makuta and Bembe. Instruments include congas, clave, cowbell, chekere and palitos. Songs include “dianas” and basic coros. Learn how these multifaceted rhythms weave together, and pick up the basic techniques of this expressive communal art form. FORMAT Song, percussion and dance will be learned in integrated sequences. The first half of the workshop, 6-7:20pm, will focus more on song and percussion. A short break follows. The second half, 7:30-8:50pm, will focus more on dance. It is okay to participate in either or both halves of the workshop, while we encourage participation in the entire workshop. ALL WELCOME! Please RSVP All instruments and song sheets provided. All levels of dancers and musicians invited to participate. This workshop is FREE and open to entire Cornell community. Thank you! 2nd WORKSHOP Will be held on Thursday December 4th 6-9pm. We will review material from this workshop and add the genres of Son-Salsa and Comparsa.
