INSTRUCTORS:
This year, our solo jazz instructor will be Erin Morris from St. Louis, Missouri! A true artist in the form, Erin's caring teaching stye, challenging prompts, and understanding of history and technique will take you on an expansive journey in your dancing, regardless of your level!
We'll also offer yoga classes in the park on Sunday from the incredible Nicole Whiting, all the way from Seattle! As both a dancer and experienced yoga instructor, she knows how to keep a dancers body ticking and healthy, and will provide tips on self-care so we can enjoy this journey for as long as possible!
BAND:
The Hep Cat Septet! This seven piece supergroup will rock your socks off, comprised of members from all over the nation, including New York City, Columbus, and right here in St. Petersburg! Comprised of several band leaders in their own right (and including several dancers), this band will be hot and sweet and smooth and raunchy and all the verbs you could possibly want a dance band to be!
Members:
Ian Hutchison (Bass)
Cait Jones (Vocals)
James Suggs (Trumpet)
Nate Najar (Guitar)
Joseph Brenneman (Clarinet & Alto Sax)
Cathy Lopez (Tenor Saxophone)
Jean Bolduc (Drums)
Main Dance VENUE:
The Manhattan Casino has one of the richest histories of any venue in Florida. Located in the Deuces Corridor in South St. Pete, the Manhattan was the apex for art and music in the African-American community, the area even being called ‘The Harlem of the South’ by some. All the greats, such as Louis Armstrong, Sarah Vaughn, Ray Charles, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown, Cab Calloway, Lionel Hampton & more walked and swung in these hallowed halls! Residents of the time even called the venue 'The Home of the Happy Feet', much like the Savoy in Harlem. You won't want to miss out on the tasty floor, the amazing layout, and the open food and bar that's offered throughout the weekend!
Late Night VENUE:
Subcentral at Iberian Rooster! This incredible bar/restaurant has a super slick speakeasy vibe, with award winning cocktails and food to keep you going into the wee hours of the night.
