Alyssa Gillespie and Rob Glover ~ Rocktown Rocks ~ Aug 3, 2019

We are excited to have Alyssa Gillespie and Rob Glover returning this month! They will be teaching and dancing at Rocktown Rocks at Blue Light Ballroom on Saturday, August 3, 2019! We hope you will join them for a great evening of learning and dancing at Rocktown Rocks, and welcome Rob (who lives in Boston) back to Charlottesville! I've been fortunate enough to have had private lessons with both in the past, and they are each amazing teachers and people! Here are brief bios of our very special guests (you can tell from the event photo that Alyssa is BACK):: We'll have the talented Alyssa Gillespie, Charlottesville and Virginia's own All-Star level dancer and someone who teaches and competes at events throughout the country. She is on staff at (now almost too many to name) Freedom Swing, Charlotte Westie Fest, MADjam, Swing Fling, Trilogy Swing, Philly Swing Classic, Atlanta Swing Classic, and probably some others that I am forgetting to mention - big regional and national events which many of us will be attending. Alyssa is particularly involved with programs designed to get newer dancers to elevate their skills in and enjoyment of the dance, and frequently coordinates these programs at events. This will be her 25th time teaching pre-dance lessons at Rocktown Rocks - so she is well known to all of our regulars, and we definitely know that she rocks! And on the other end of the spectrum, we'll be hosting Rob Glover for his second visit to Rocktown Rocks. Rob is a masterful dance instructor, skilled choreographer and movement training specialist. Born in Liverpool, England, Rob began his career in the performing arts at the young age of six. As a world champion dancer, Rob knows how to motivate people to perform beyond their own expectations. He has whipped top athletes, musicians and celebrities into shape through the art of movement training and performance coaching. As a performer and choreographer, his resume spans the globe on both stage and screen. Most recently, he served as an Assistant Choreographer on the UK version of Dancing With The Stars. He teaches in Japan, and visits that country four times each year to train his students there. Rob has served as a radio personality, a television host and a master of ceremonies on both sides of the Atlantic. His resume includes corporate events, live auctions, theatre performances, television presenting, talk show style interviews, dance conventions & competitions as well as sporting events. Rob delivers his unique personality, quick wit & of course his charming British accent every time he is cast. Its all about the performance - Rob has been hired to work with musicians, top athletes & celebrities on such things as concert flow & set list direction, on camera training, interview preparation, competition conditioning, as well as general health & well-being during life on the road or on tour. Rob currently trains both professional & amateur competitive dance couples. While teaching all over the world, Rob now lives in Boston, and we are very fortunate to have such a skilled, fun, caring dancers joining us at Rocktown Rocks! ADDRESS: Blue Light Ballroom, 1739-D Allied Street, Charlottesville, VA 22903 TIMES: 6:00 - 6:50 Workshop 1: WCS - Make the Beats Count - Musical Layering 7:00 - 7:50 Workshop 2: WCS - Substance of Swing - Continual Patterning 7:50 - 11:30ish: Social Dancing (with a special demo at approximately 9:15 pm). COST: Just $35 per person for one or both workshops, including admission to the dance and demo. $15 per person for just the dance and demo (no workshops) - doors will open for dance only attendees at the conclusion of the workshops at 7:50 pm - please don't arrive before then if you are coming for the dance only. Students: $15 per person for one or both workshops, including admission to the dance and demo, or $10 just for the dance and demo (doors for this option will open at 7:50). If money is an issue (we've all been there), please don't hesitate to contact Carl Lind privately and we will see if we can work something out for you - we want those who want to come to be able to. DRESS: Casual and comfortable, of course! Dance shoes are recommended. REFRESHMENTS: Basic refreshments will be provided (water, etc.), but if you would like to bring a snack to share with your fellow dancers, that would be welcomed. No alcohol, no outside containers, and no smoking. CODE OF CONDUCT: Rocktown Rocks has a Code of Conduct to ensure positive and safe behavior at our events. These items cause allergic reactions in many people, including some of our dancers. Thank you NEXT DANCE: We're dark in September 2019 due to Trilogy Swing in Raleigh being held on the first weekend in September. But we'll be back at Blue Light Ballroom in Charlottesville on October 5, 2019, and are hosting Frank Blakemore and Victoria Andromalos-Dale for their latest visit to Rocktown Rocks! Similar format as our August dance and their previous visits - two pre-dance workshops, special demo, and private lessons available!
