aPasionada: Summer Sensual Extreme 2019

The June 21st summer solstice approaches, and this year we’re kicking off the hot season with aPasionada: Summer Sensual Extreme 2019! We’re back again this year for Raleigh/Durham’s hottest sensual weekender. Third Friday of June, the first day of summer, it’s the hottest bachata social in the Triangle, aPasionada Bachata Night. Then on Saturday, it’s the 3-Room Circus, Hours of FREE Lessons and Uplevel Workshops, and some Dope Highly Anticipated Performances. Finally we close with the KizExtreme Sunday Social! No “sensual” room splitting the zouk/kizomba with bachata. No salsa room with half the music being merengue and rando stuff. This time we’ll keep it pure with 90% bachata in the Bachata Room, 100% salsa and chacha in the Salsa Room, and 100% kizable and zoukable music in the Zouk/Kizomba Room. It’s like three different socials; choose one or choose all! Instruction – Free Lessons and 5½ Hours of Workshops: Saturday afternoon we hit the ground running with two 2-Hour workshops from Miami-Based International Bachata Pros, ALEX & ROMI at The Vault! Workshop 1 is titled "Modern Sensual Bachata;" Workshop 2 is titled "Bachata Men & Ladies Styling." After we shower and recover we head over to Carmen’s that evening for a FREE bachata lesson before the 3-Room Social taught by the dynamic duo, LATIN SWAG. Then, for those who plan to frequent the Zouk/Kizomba Room, we also have a FREE lesson by LYDIE VANESSA of Triangle Zouk. Finally on Sunday, we have a can't-miss 1½ hour kiz workshop with NC's own VICTORIA VANOVER for FREE with the cover for the kiz social that evening. Performances – 3 Routines Hitting The Stage: Making their aPasionada debut is a match made in salsa heaven. To much anticipation, LULU DIAZ & MAGGIE ZAM team up to bring us a salsa routine specifically made for the Sensual Extreme stage. Next up, also making their aPasionada debut, LATIN SWAG lights up the floor with their high energy choreo. Finally, headlining Friday evening’s performances is the Bachata World Champion couple ALEX & ROMI with a sensual bachata show. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sunday June 23rd at The Vault: – 5:30pm-7:00pm: FREE Kiz Workshop with Victoria Vanover. – 7:00pm-10:30pm: KizExtreme Dance Social. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Salsa Room: JAMES COBO will be bringing the musical flavor and heat to the Salsa Room. 90% of the music selection will be Salsa, and because this is Sensual Extreme, there’ll be some good Salsa Romanticas in the mix. Also, expect some groovy ChaCha to fill up the last 10% of the track list. Bachata Room: Yours truly, DJ Numinus Beats, will be on the ones and twos in the Bachata Room. Again, 90% of the music will be Bachata. I’m known for playing a good mix of every style of bachata at aPasionada. For Sensual Extreme, expect just about every bachata to be Modern/Urbana, Sensual, or a Remix.. And for that last 10%, to cleanse the pallet I’ll be throwing in some dope, danceable Top40, R&B, and Fusion tracks. Zouk/Kizomba Room: All the music in the KiZouk Room will be kizzable and/or zoukable (or even kiZoukable!). I’ll be touching every hotspot with plenty of tracks for Zouk Fusion, some Tarraxinha, Ghetto Zouk, Kizomba, and a touch of LambaZouk. KizExtreme Social (Sunday Night): Last but not least on deck for Sensual Extreme, we’ll bring it in close for some good rhythm and connection. The playlist for the evening will be heavier on the Newer Kizomba, Tarraxinha, and Ghetto Zouk. This will be the perfect way to close out the weekender. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Alex & Romi: Alex and Romi are a world-class duo in the international bachata community. They are the founders/directors of Alex Pro Dance Studio in Miami, and they travel the world performing, competing, and teaching thousands of people how to dance employing their 30 years of combined experience. That experience includes working with several industry leading artists including DJ Khaled, Prince Royce, and Oscar D’León to name a few. They are world titleholders many times over, including World Champions in the Professional Bachata Improv Division at The World Latin Dance Cup 2018. Passion, dedication, and professionalism marks their performance and instruction. Latin Swag: Josbell Quiros and Marco Molina compose the infamous duo known as Latin Swag. The tag team recently moved to Charlotte, NC. Traveling, teaching, and performing around the country, they fuse latin and hip-hop with all the right types of vibes -- sexy, cool, bad boy, high energy, comedy, and fun! Lulu Diaz & Maggie Zam: Both Lulu and Maggie are alumni of our famed Cobo Brothers Dance Co. In my humble opinion, they are two of the best salseras the Triangle’s dance scene has produced. They are currently freelancers developing their own projects, but I personally asked them to team up to bring us something awesome for this weekender. We’re excited to see these ladies together in duet. James Cobo: Here in the Triangle, this guy needs no introduction. Who better to DJ the Salsa Room than the man who’s heard, taught to, and danced to all our favorite classic salsa songs give or take a thousand times each. Lydie Vanessa of Triangle Zouk: Lydie is one of the founders, instructors, and beautiful dancers of Triangle Zouk, the heart of our local Brazilian Zouk scene. TZ is committed to spreading the love and learning of Brazilian Zouk in the Triangle area of North Carolina and to building a safe, inclusive, and welcoming community of social dancers. Victoria Vanover: Victoria is a lover, traveling student, and DJ of kizomba (umbrella). She is a director of BKZ Charlotte.
