Dance with Brandin Steffensen 10-12 class at 100 Grand $12 Class will be a mix of partnering principles and contact improvisation. Forms, composition, and improvisation will be used to approach unfamiliar pathways. Our preparations allow the accidental to lead to useful surprise. Brandin Steffensen makes dances that engage dance artists' choreographed and spontaneous bodies. He is concerned with layering practices to create compelling ensemble and framing the work so its qualities are legible in a performance environment. His Pentamodes are dances based on archetypical modes of relationship and have been presented at the New Museum, Dance Theater Workshop, La MaMa, and The Tank, among others. He brings the upcoming Glimpse 2: a performance installation of the Underscore to the Harkness 92nd Street Y, May 9, 10. His work with Deborah Hay and the lovely Keely Garfield play in his head as he collaborates with Nancy Stark Smith. He dances with Liz Gerring Dance Company and can be seen in the renowned Sleep No More and reads about n-dimensional space and the properties of the physical universe that allow us to communicate using subatomic particles.
