*IT’S TIME FOR OUR ANNUAL AGM & ELECTIONS DAY* Date: Friday 28th February (Week 8) Time: 6pm Location: OC1.03 (Oculus building) It is perhaps one of the saddest yet most exciting and important events that the society is organising every year! The AGM & Elections Day is your chance to have your voice heard and run to be part or help your friends get elected in the exec. As an exec member, you will be able to see how the society functions behind the scenes and become a vital part in the tango scene at Warwick. It is a very rewarding, interesting and challenging experience and all members are strongly encouraged and welcome to run for any role. For an added bonus, it looks amazing on your CV but also gives you FREE lessons throughout the year. 2019-2020 exec: President (Evgenia Chamilou) Vice-President (Clariece Leong) Social secretary (Sixtine Lauzeral) Treasurer (Aistis Grigas) Secretary (Myriam Atassi) Postgraduate officer (Scott Andrew) If you have any questions about the exec as a whole or a specific position, please do not hesitate to contact any one of us. Positions available for nomination: A short summary of what each role involves is below: • President: o In charge of most administrative work o Responsible for delegating tasks to the other Exec members o Coordinates exec meetings o Arranges the Welcome Week events o Communicates with and represent the society to the Student Union o Communicates with teachers and organises lessons with them o Drafts the Termly Plan o Organises Pizazz in cooperation with the officer in charge o Always responsible for knowing what is going on o Organises the society as a whole • Vice-President: o Being the second-in-command to the President o Assisting the President as well as any other Exec members whenever they are in need o The Welfare Officer of the society which means that they are the point of contact if members do not feel welcome or feel uncomfortable in the society • Social-Secretary (x 2): o Coordinate internal and external milongas o Organise any social events, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, such as POP!, Skool Dayz or movie nights o Communicate and collaborate with other societies o Create Facebook events and other promotional material • Treasurer: o In charge of the society budget o Helps with planning events o Submits SU forms, ranging from event planning packs and refund requests to financial planners o Deals with payments to teachers and any other transfers when costs or grants have emerged o Ensures the mitigation of any financial risk • Secretary: o Writes weekly posts o Sends weekly emails with society updates o Communicates with the SU or other university departments o Books rooms o Marketing, mainly through Instagram and Facebook • Postgraduate Officer: o Collects feedback from our postgraduate members o Coordinates practicas during the undergraduate breaks o Contributes to the general running of the society o Undertake general exec duties including attending the majority of classes and participating in the promotion of the society • Events Coordinator: o Responsible for coordinating Pizazz along with the President, such as organising rehearsals, finding costumes etc o Assists other Exec members if they are in need, for example with setting up milongas o Communicates with other societies for external performances Rules PRE-ELECTIONS: * You have to be a member of the society by Tuesday 18th February in order to nominate yourself for a position and vote in the elections * It is possible to run for multiple positions * You are allowed to do a PowerPoint presentation explaining why you want the role and why we should vote for you * Campaigning starts 21st February and finishes 28th February – candidates may create Facebook events or post on social media, but no current Exec member is allowed to react to any of those apart from declaring “interested” to a Facebook event * You should send your manifestos by email to [email protected] or message the current President, Evgenia Chamilou, on Facebook by 6pm Friday 21st February the latest ELECTIONS DAY: * For the election event itself you will need to create a short manifesto (no longer than 3/4 of a page * Each speech should not be longer than 3 minutes (PowerPoint presentations are allowed) * Each speech will be followed by a Q&A * Once all candidates for one position have presented, voting will take place *In case there are more than one candidate(s) for a single position, the other candidate(s) will be asked to leave the room while that person is making his/her speech * Members can select RON (Re-open Nominations) as a preference if they feel that the remaining candidates are not suitable for the position. Voting RON is an active vote against the other candidates – it is not an expression of indifference. If Re-Open Nominations is elected to a position then nominations for that post are re-opened at a later date * Candidates' manifestos may not contain inappropriate language, including expletives, sexual references, encouragement of excessive drinking/drunkenness, drug-taking references, discriminatory language SU guidance on manifestos: https://www.warwicksu.com/news/article/warwicksu/Elections-manifestos-guidance-for-students/ This meeting will also act as our AGM (Annual-General-Meeting).
