About this Event
ARGENTINE TANGO for beginners with OLGA POGORELOVA!
Intensive course - 4 hours.
Would you like to discover Argentine Tango? This intensive weekend workshop gives you a thorough introduction to this elegant and expressive partner dance.
Argentine Tango originated in Buenos Aires and is known for its close connection, musicality and unique communication between partners. Unlike dances based on fixed choreography, Argentine Tango is largely improvised – the dance is created in the moment through the music and the connection between leader and follower.
During the workshop, you’ll learn the fundamental elements of Argentine Tango. We’ll work on posture, walking technique, balance, leading and following, basic steps and simple combinations. The focus is on building a solid foundation and understanding the communication that makes tango such a unique dance.
The workshop is suitable for complete beginners, and no previous dance experience is required.
Leader or follower?
In partner dancing, you dance as either a leader or a follower. The leader invites the movement, while the follower interprets and responds to it. The roles are not gender-specific – everyone can choose whichever role they prefer.
When registering, simply choose whether you would like to participate as a leader or follower.
You do not need to bring a partner. We rotate partners during the workshop so everyone gets the opportunity to practise.

Meet our instructor:
OLGA POGORELOVA has been dancing Argentine tango for 15 years. 12 years ago she started travelling to Buenos Aires to improve her dancing skills.
She has learnt Spanish and 7 years ago moved to Argentina in order to professionalise her dance with the best maestros.
Among many other teachers she had the honour to learn with her primary maestros Carlos Perez and Rosa Forte, Gabriel Angio and Natalia Gamez, Los Canelos. Maestros who raised several generations of professional dancers and world champions.
Through 2019-2021 Olga completed studies in History of Tango and Musicalización de Tango (Tango DJ) at CETBA (Centro del Tango de Buenos Aires). She strongly believes that in order to get better in dance, understanding its history and music is very important.
6 years ago she started exploring the leader part, she found it useful to understand better follower role and it gave her the opportunity to teach both tango roles and explain better communication in the couple.
Since she started dancing tango as an adult she had to work a lot on body awareness, technique and body transformation. It was not an easy path, but this gave her deep knowledge of tango technique and understanding of different students' needs, struggles and differences in tango and other dance styles technique.
Olga did some performances in Buenos Aires and worked as a Tango DJ at various events in Argentina and Oslo.
During trips to Oslo she would give seminars organised by herself and some classes before milongas. 1 year ago she became co-organiser of milonga Tiki-Tiki at Halvorsens Conditori in Oslo.
