About this Event

Argentine Tango Workshops with Baz Arnold Presented by Global Dance Collective Join us for a special morning of Argentine Tango with Australian Tango Champion and Buenos Aires–trained teacher Baz Arnold (Melbourne). These two workshops explore the essence of tango: connection, musicality, and presence. Rather than focusing on accumulating steps, the focus is on refining the quality of movement, listening deeply to the music, and developing a shared conversation between partners. Both workshops are open level and suitable for all dancers. Beginners will gain strong foundational skills, while experienced dancers will discover ways to deepen the subtlety, musicality, and emotional depth of their tango. Cost: $30 per workshop or $50 for two. 📍 Location Bfitt Studio 6/2 Woodman Court, West End SUNDAY 29th March! 10am - 12pm Link to book: https://pci.jotform.com/form/260628423428054 ⸻ Workshop One Less Steps, More Tango 10:00am – 11:00am A deep exploration of tango’s most essential elements: connection, walking, and the power of the pause. This workshop shifts dancers away from collecting endless figures and toward discovering the profound richness that exists within the simplest movements. Participants will explore how tango begins before the first step, learning to create intention, presence, and shared breath in the embrace. Through guided exercises and musical exploration, dancers will learn how to transform walking into a true conversation with their partner and the orchestra. Topics explored include: • Arriving in connection and developing a responsive embrace • The expressive tango walk — quality over quantity • Musical phrasing and dancing with the orchestra • The magnetic power of stillness and pauses • Breathing together and sharing intention in movement Advanced dancers will discover new depth and nuance within the fundamentals, while beginners will build a strong and elegant foundation for their tango journey. Because sometimes less steps truly creates more tango. ⸻ Workshop Two Musical Play: A Conversation with the Orchestra 11:00am – 12:00pm This workshop explores tango as a living dialogue between partners and music. Rather than memorising choreography, dancers will develop the ability to listen deeply and respond organically to the orchestra. Participants will learn how musicality transforms movement, allowing the dance to breathe, stretch, and suspend in conversation with the music. Key themes explored include: • Listening deeply to the structure of tango music • Walking with the orchestra rather than over it • The elastic pause — suspending time in the embrace • Moving as one body with four legs • Musical challenges that develop improvisation and connection • Reflection and awareness in social dancing This class will help dancers move beyond patterns and into authentic improvisation, creating tango that feels alive, responsive, and uniquely their own. Suitable for all levels, this workshop offers beginners a clear pathway into musical tango while allowing experienced dancers to refine their interpretation, subtlety, and musical sensitivity. ⸻ Special Guest Instructor Baz Arnold (Melbourne) Baz Arnold is a Melbourne-based Argentine Tango teacher trained in Buenos Aires, where he earned his Diploma in Teacher Training before becoming Australian Argentine Tango Champion. Originally introduced to tango by his grandmother, Baz teaches with a focus on connection, balance, musicality, and a comfortable embrace, helping dancers develop confidence and authenticity on the social dance floor. His classes are known for being clear, supportive, and transformative, guiding students to discover the heart of tango through powerful fundamentals rather than complex choreography.
