The Sufi's would say that there are 2 main initiations in life: The first is when we awaken to the truth that we are children of the Divine, that we belong to the Divine and are sustained by the power that created us. The second is about spiritual maturity, when we awaken to the truth that we are parents of the Divine, that the Divine lives in us and through us, the Divine plan becomes fulfilled. We need initiation to become mature individuals that can cooperate to build a mature civilization - Heaven on Earth. Without initiation we are destined to be children forever. Initiation provides the means for us to grow up mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Initiation rituals are meant to be deeply personal, profound and transformational - to mark and facilitate a permanent change in our inner lives. Ecstatic Dance has served as a rite of passage for many of us.
