We are excited to invite you to a whole day of Blues dancing, including an intermediate level workshop and social. If you've been missing Blues, this is the perfect opportunity to refresh your knowledge or learn this wonderful style of dancing, then dance till you drop! COST: Workshop and Social: $65 Workshop only: $50 Social only: $20 ---------------------- THE WORKSHOPS: Jo and Andy - the team behind Swing Patrol's Juke Joint - will bring you three hours of classes designed to refresh and improve your Blues and give you the tools to dance with confidence and style. We can't wait to share our love of this dance style with you! ---------------------- LEVEL: The workshop will be pitched at intermediate level, and will be ideal for dancers who have done Blues before and are keen to refresh their skills, as well as intermediate level dancers from another dance style such as Lindy Hop who would like to learn this dance style. We will be rotating partners in this class, but you are welcome to just dance with one person if you prefer. Please note, if you are new to partner dancing then this workshop will probably be too difficult for you, and we invite you to try our all-levels Blues class at North Sydney on October 4th instead. In this class we'll dive into the essential elements that makes our Blues Blues. It's not just slow dancing or doing whatever you want - we'll explore the core concepts you need to know in order to ensure that your dancing is authentic and respectful to this beautiful African American art form. We'll explore concepts such as style and connection, touch on the history and context of Blues, and learn some classic Blues movements. Class 2: 2.30-3.30pm Jukin' Blues - make it funky... Blues is a hugely varied style, with fast and slow music and everything in-between. Jukin' is the ideal way to dance to more up tempo Blues and we'll explore some cool footwork stylings, rhythmic variations, learn some fun moves and then put those concepts into our dancing. Class 3: 3.45-4.45pm Ballroomin' Blues - make it smooooth... This class will dive into the gorgeous smooth style of Ballroomin' Blues. We'll focus on connection and flow, and learn some beautiful moves that allow us to really lean into our technique as we enjoy the magic of really connecting to our partner, the music and the dance. ---------------------- WORKSHOP DETAILS: Workshop location: St Stephens Hall, 189 Church St, Newtown NSW 2042 Workshop times: Doors open 1.00pm, workshops run 1.15-4.45pm Transport: 6km from city, nearest station is Newtown, plenty of buses and street parking available (please check signs) ---------------------- THE SOCIAL: It's time to put it all into practice and dance to Sydney's best Blues DJs till midnight. It's been a long time between dances, so we're excited to be back on the dance floor with you all! In order to maintain the safety and comfort of everyone we will be limiting numbers, so we strongly recommend you pre-book your ticket to reserve your space. If there are spare tickets we will sell them on the night, but once we reach capacity we will close the doors. Please bring your water bottle, and BYO alcohol is permitted, however please take your empties away with you and keep yourself nice - if you get drunk and annoy other guests you will be asked to leave. IMPORTANT NOTE: the building's security means that doors will close at 10pm, so make sure you arrive in time! After this time you can leave but you won't be able to re-enter the building. They have travelled Australia and the world to learn Blues, and have taught at events including Borderline Blues in Launceston, as well as events in Darwin, Perth, Coffs Harbour and of course Sydney.
