Directed by Celina M Villarroel Whiting Team goals: - perform at dance events locally and internationally - spread the reggaeton dance style and music to others - train and elevate dancers to gain confidence in performance and in freestyle/social dancing Description of Reggaeton: Reggaeton music originated in Puerto Rico in the late 1980s and early 1990s and developed in the underground movement among the Latino youth. It has influences in Jamaican Reggae, Spanish Rap, dancehall, electronica and salsa and bomba rhythms. One of the main characteristics in the music are the sexual undertones in the lyrics. This has lead to the sensual and aggressive movements that are seen in the Reggaeton dance style. While the dance style can be a fusion of different dance styles such as hip hop, salsa, contemporary, street jazz and dancehall; the ability to isolate the body to the rhythm of the music is what sets this dance apart. If you are looking to increase stamina, gain control and confidence in your body movement and dancing, this training group is for you.
