About this Event

Be One Week Presentation of research and activities regarding connection, movement and expression in partner dance during multiple events in a 8 day period. “Be One” is the title of Ocho's ongoing research on dance connection. Be one is broken down into 4 elements we should strive to be one with which are the ground, self, partner and music. It involves the individual connecting with the ground, themselves, their partner and music on a deep level to create harmony and communicate effectively while leading and responding. The goal of this workshop series and the social dance/practice opportunities is to help people dance any dance with with more awareness, connection and enjoyment. Ocho fell in love with Zouk when he was invited to teach Kizomba at the DC Zouk Festival in 2016. Shortly afterwards, he began learning Zouk fundamentals from Ry'el and Jessica during the 2016 NY Zouk Festival. Inspired by videos of William Teixeira and Paloma Alves, Ocho traveled to Netherlands to attend the Dutch International Zouk Festival to train with them. At Dutch he had the opportunity to learn from all the top Zouk artists including Jaime Aroxa, Renata Peçanha, William Teixeira, Xandi Liberato, Val Clemente and so many more. Each year he returned to the Dutch Festival and also traveled extensively throughout Europe attending other festivals and participating in local communities in Poland, Germany, Spain, Portugal and Turkey for extended periods. In October 2018, he completed the Dutch International Zouk Congress teachers course with Jaime Aroxa, Renata Peçanha, Adilio Porto the founders from Rio of Zouk Lambada as well as Bruno Galhardo, William and Paloma and Xandi Liberato. Now, he organizes international events, DJs and teaches Zouk in Washington D.C. and Istanbul, Turkey. Ocho has a deep understanding of dance connection, variations of traditional Zouk technique and musicality. His explanations are often philosophical and centered on breathing and being one.
