The contact improvisation dance beginner night takes place once a month at the Santa Monica Contact Improvisation Dance Jam. We start the evening with a 1-hour class/warmup suitable for all levels followed by open jamming.

Laurel Jenkins is a Los Angeles based choreographer and dancer. She joined the Trisha Brown Dance Company in 2007 and continues to perform with the company. Jenkins re-staged Brown's repertory for Le Mouvement: Performing the City/Biel Bienne, Switzerland, for the Trisha Brown Retrospective, Nashville, and for Ballet de Lorraine, France. She received a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA from UCLA’s Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance. Her work has been shown in NYC at: Danspace Project (DraftWork and Food for Thought), Joyce SoHo, Judson Church, Dixon Place and the NY Fringe, and in LA at: Automata, Highways, Pieter, the Fowler Museum, and the Hammer Museum. Internationally, she has been presented at the Prague Fringe, Decoda at Coventry University, U.K., Tanz im August: Berlin International Dance Festival, and Improvisation Xchange, Berlin. Jenkins teaches at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, Loyola Marymount University, at Pieter, and was a guest teacher at CSULB this spring. With the support of the Asian Cultural Council, Jenkins traveled to Phnom Penh, Cambodia this winter to develop soma path, a duet with Chey Chankethya, Artistic Director of Amrita Performing Arts.
