About this Event

If you expect just another regular Tango class where you will copy and paste a sequence of steps from the teacher: do NOT come to this workshop!!! Valerie's classes are all about improvisation, connection and creativity in Tango. The aim is to help people who sometimes feel overwhelmed with the responsability in the dance and usually fall back into automatisms because they are their "safe space" to be in. But Tango is about daring, is about feeling the present moment and allowing it to unfold. This can even mean, sometimes, to be still, to wait, to have a breath. To not fill every beat with "doing something". The result is a more authentic connection to your partner, higher creativity in movement, better communication and true co-creation in a dialogue and a deepening in your musicality. Only if we have the courage to let go of the known path, if we are a bit vulnerable in the dance, then we can joyfully create new movements. A plus in this workshop is the fact that it is open level. The basic principles of Tango will be presented in an easy and approachable way to beginners. We will take advantage of the curiosity and the innocence of the beginner for the creation of movement. Our common base will be emotion and connection as the prior source of the dance which also has a high aesthetics of the movement as a natural consequence. (We dance totally different if we just copy a sequence or if we really feel what we dance - a fact that is not considered in many classes.) Your teacher is Valerie Kattenfeld, an Austrian living in Buenos Aires, who is currently in a 2 months Europe tour with her classes, teaching at 6 festivals in 6 different countries. Valerie is also a trained Biodanza facilitator and created her own methodology "Biotango". She is highly appreciated by her students from Argentina, the UK, USA, Canada, France, Germany and many countries for the humanity and spirituality she brings into Tango. The testimonials she receives from her classes are mainly about feeling more comfortable and connected in the dance, being more creative and joyful and having relaxation replaced anxiety and stress. The focus shifts completely from "getting it right" to enjoying the dance - which organically improves the quality of the dance a lot. When Valerie is not on tour, she happily welcomes Tango tourists from all over the world in Buenos Aires and introduces them to the local community.
