On this day, the sun reaches its zenit on the tropic of cancer. The old germanic and northern tribes celebrated Solstice as a mystic day. People used to roll burning wheels down hills into the water to celebrate the sun at its peak and getting weaker from this day on until winter solstice. The Saxons used to lit huge bonfires. Among the Celtic people solstice is known as Litha, the time of battle between light and dark. Today's pagan people use this day to reflect on their own lightness and shadow and the lightness and shadow in the world. In Scandinavia the solstice fest is called midsummer. According to a law from 1953 midsummer is celebrated on the Saturday between the 20th and the 26th of June. The Friday evening before that is called Midsommarafton and it was believed that nature was magic in this night, with pixies dancing on the meadows and trolls standing behind the trees. Especially the dew collected in this night was believed to have magical healing powers. Also Shakespeare's play "a midsummer night's dream" plays in an enchanted forest full of magical creatures... And this is what we are going to do too! From there you can either take the exit towards the park and then walk through Treptower Park, crossing Puschkinallee. Walk parallel to the big street (B96a), cross it and enter Moosdorfstraße on the right, walk until the end, turn left and enter the yard. The entrance is at the end of the building on the right side. Enter and walk the stairs up to the 2nd floor. Or you take the exit towards the street at Treptower park, turn left, walk along the B96a, after the cinema turn left again, cross the street and take the first right (Moosdorfstraße). As the 11th kin (energetic quality) of the maya calendar, Chuen or Ba'atz, the Blue Monkey stands for the lightness and playfulness of the child that is not yet conditioned by society. Open and innocent, it just follows its impulses. It is this energy that served as inspiration for The Blue Monkey. A Monkey day is a good day for dance, music, play and monkeying around. For a “Conscious Carnival”, a space in which we can drop our societal masks and flow together. We feel that this energy of lightness and playfulness is needed very much in our world today. At the same time we want to keep it conscious and safe and and thus offer an alternative to Berlin's regular club life that nourishes our need for ecstasy without the unbalanced overindulging.
