International dance instructor, Brenda Russell, is coming back to Eureka to teach a Blues Dance Workshop. Topics: Ballroom Blues Learn the groove and aesthetics of traditional traveling blues dances. Swing Walk, Strut, Stride, Trot, Grind are all Ballroom Blues dances, come get the basics before diving deeper. Blues Grooves I A sampler of slow blues styles that can be danced in bars or at blues parties. Blues Grooves 2 A continuation of identifying common blues grooves and adding vocabulary to express their uniqueness. Fusion In this session we will identify and explore the common dance and skill bases that people bring into fusion, identify which you bring, and make a nice tasty soup. Yummy. ************************************ What is Fusion? Where the house parties started, where they were always meant to be. The Blues Community started out in a confused state of identity. Swing dancers and multi dance dancers were hosting parties and dancing to a variety of music using whatever dance skills they had. This was the humble beginnings of Fusion, which was mislabeled as Blues. Fast forward 25 years, those who got Blues curious developed a Blues dance community, the rest went the way of Fusion. Now there are many genres of Fusion and we are all part of an evolving cultural phenomenon.
