Blues & Fusion Room at Trilogy Swing 2024

Blues & Fusion will be joining the line-up of great dancing at Trilogy Swing this year! We will be offering a variety of Blues and Fusion workshops and TWO nights of social dancing. In partnership with Greenville Fusion, RDU Blues, and the local community, we plan to keep you dancing all weekend long! You can pay at the door! This year we will also be offering a Close Embrace Blues Intensive Workshop to help you take your dance to the next level. Our lessons will draw techniques from a variety of Blues Dance genres to give techniques that can either elevate your Blues Dance skills or add to your Fusion tool kit! The social dance will also rotate music between a variety of Blues genres and Fusion tunes. Don’t forget, our basic workshops and socials are FREE with your full weekend pass to Trilogy Swing! SCHEDULE: Friday 7:00p - 8:00p - Intro to Blues Dancing with Julie Brown — “Blues is a family of social dances (some solo, some partnered) from African-American communities across the U.S., that co-developed with different sub-styles of blues music throughout history. In this class, we’ll cover foundational elements of blues dancing that define it, as well as an overview of basic blues partnered connections and vocabulary.” 8:00p - 9:00p - Fundamental Floorcraft with Mac Frazier — “No dancer left behind! Navigating a crowded dance floor and still maintaining connective moments with your partner is a real craft. This class will cover etiquette, communication skills, and a few moves to help you cruise around the floor with grace and ease while avoiding any collisions with fellow dancers. Beginner and intermediate friendly.” 9:00p - 10:00p - Foundational Blues Rhythms with Julie Brown — “Come learn some common rhyythmic grooves that show up in blues music, and different ways we can use these rhythms in our blues dancing, through pulse, isolations, and footwork.” 10:00p - 4:00a - Blues and Fusion Social DJs (In Order): Kat Holloway, Dave Warner, Alyssa Tyler, Dan Copenhaver, Samuel Clinton, Justin Burkey Saturday 5:00p - 7:00p - Close Embrace in Blues with Julie Brown (Intensive add-on) - “This 2-hour intensive will start by covering the basics of close embrace dancing in blues, how to comfortably connect with different partners, and how to initiate, accept, or decline close embrace. Then we’ll expand into different types of close embrace connection, to bring more fun options to our close dancing, in comfort and style.” 7:00p - 8:00p - Traveling Techniques with Mac Frazier — “Oh the places you’ll go (across the dance floor)! This lesson will give you the skills to travel the dance floor with your partner and make full use of the space. Whether you’ve got a lot of movement room or just a little, you’ll learn to scope and explore with flair and panache. Beginner and intermediate friendly.” 8:00p - 9:00p - Spins and Turns for Blues with Julie Brown — “(This class assumes knowledge of how to lead and/or follow turns in another dance, such as West Coast Swing or Fusion). During this class, we’ll explore a range of partnering techniques and dynamics for turns in blues dance.
