About this Event

One thing we love is when wonderful international dancers come to visit us and share the style and joy of dancing from their own home scenes. One such dancer is Kristýna Krejzlová from the Czech Republic and currently living in Kaikoura (some of you may have met her during the recent Big Band Festival). Kristýna has a particular love for blues dancing and is keen to share her enthusiasm for blues with our scene, especially with newer dancers who haven't yet had a chance to fall in love with blues. She has suggested a beginner workshop on Sunday 12th of November, prior to the first Canterbury Blues Club monthly gig so there is a chance to put the lesson to good use afterwards: https://www.canterburybluesclub.co.nz/news/opening-night-blues-night Kristýna will be joined by our lovely local Rebel Molly McGee to lead the class together. ******Class description****** This is an open level workshop, aimed more at beginners but all are welcome. It will help dancers get an introduction to blues dancing, and really show that you can dance solo/in a couple/how to interact with the band. You will cover some juke joint and basics of slow drag/close embrace blues. ****** Cost******* Kristýna has suggested that this class be run on a busker style "pay what you feel" model. To register, complete this form (https://swingtownrebels.co.nz/blues_warm_up/) which includes a $5 contribution to the hall hire costs. After the workshop if you had a great time there is a no obligation chance to contribute some more to thank Kristýna and Molly for their time. This can be done in cash on the day or by completing the form: https://swingtownrebels.co.nz/swingtown-rebels-miscellaneous-payment/ with "blues" in the description. ****** Kristýna's bio******* Kristýna is a Lindy Hop and Blues dancer from Czech Republic, now working and travelling in NZ. She started dancing in 2017 and fall for Lindy Hop and swing music. She started to attend local and also several international dance festivals every year. But when Covid came and she was isolated in her hometown unable to dance she discovered Blues music and fall in love with music and dance immediately. It was a game changer for her. She started exploring solo Blues dancing, self-awareness and body movement in general. She also attend several theatre improvisation courses and international blues festivals. All of it helped her understand that there is not several different dances, but just ONE in which you can connect all together. Her mission is to spread love and passion for Blues music and dance.
