About this Event
Blurring Borders
Lab with Nirvan Narvin
11-13 April 2024
Koh Phangan, Thailand
This LAB is dedicated to the dialog between our practice of Contact Improvisation and the politics that give shape to the way we relate to eachother, as living beings, and to our earth: the support of life?
This LABs wish is to understand how our community, but particularly our practice, can participate in the effort to stop reiterating the paradigm of separation and learn and restore the awareness of the interdependent nature that pervades all experience.
What do we practice in the jam space (our ritual temple) that can inform this transition?
what are the values and the specificity of CI that can be seen as alternatives to the current ways of doing?
How do we help to lift what supports us?
In this lab we will meet different contemporary researches from ethology, feminism, dance & performance theory and other disciplines, that bring valuable insights to sensitize human kind in it's transition to kind human.
How do we blur the boundaries between intelectual process and improvised dance?
How does what we hear affect us and therefor our movement?
What is needed to find a common body with them? A new body that can embrace a deeper reality?
In this lab we'll use different scores to dance, read, dance, share, dance, write, dance and draw this mutual intersections.
Every morning we will depart together with a Readancing practice, which is a one hour long collective score that combines stillness, movement and improvisation while listening to the daily piece. It's very nourishing for our tuning to start this practice together so we benefit from eachothers ponctuality.
Here is a sketch for the lab (some small adjustments to the content may still happen, and will be udated here)
1st day - with Steve Paxton and focus on his perspective on improvisation
2nd day - with a reflexion from Erin Manning on this video manifesto "In my language" by Mel Baggs. Blurring the borders of the interactive body and exposing how the 'socially acceptable' creates and shapes our separation.
3rd day - with Anna Tsing and an excerpt from her book "The Mushroom at the end of the world" developing on the topic of disturbance and precarity as the source for renovation and change.
The group will not exceed 20 participants so please register as soon as possible if you wish to take part.
You are welcome to join for the full LAB or to come for specific mornings but please register before by sending me a message telling which days are you interested to come:
