About this Event
Want to level up your dancing and partnering skills? This is the third in a series of workshops to learn more about body mechanics and increase body awareness and alignment. This kind of work has literally transformed my dancing and I think it can transform yours too!
(Hi, I'm Greg. I dance lindy hop, blues, bal folk, tango, and balboa. I've been working on body mechanics with various teachers for several years now and I'd like to build up a community of people in Edinburgh who are as excited as I am to work on their partner dance through the lens of body mechanics. I'm not usually given to over-hypey event descriptions like this one, but I think it's worth making an exception)
The theme for this edition will be shoulders
Through a variety of activities and exercises we will
- Work on releasing our shoulders, freeing the head to float up
- Find the connection from the ground to the sacrum and the sacrum to the shoulders
- Use our released shoulders to connect through to our partners and work on partnering concepts such as stretch
- Maybe finally figure out what we mean when we say "engage the lats!"
Our work will apply to all partner dances (definitely those I'm familiar with). Your movement and partnering will see a variety of positive effects, both immediately and over the following weeks. I wrote a blog post to explain why: http://gregdyke.github.io/2017/12/27/body-mechanics.html
