BraveSpace® is a guided somatic container for healing, play, and connection. In BraveSpace we take the risk of vulnerability through shared improvisatory movement and awareness because it frees our spirits and helps us grow. Our social limitations and traumas are neither formed nor healed alone. Dancing, touching, and processing in circle together we are able to trust our bodies and get out of our heads. The intimacy of BraveSpace is built on the understanding that while there is no such thing as ‘safe’ we can co-create a container we can each trust. No one person is responsible, and each of us participates. Then, in ‘funcomfortable explorationship’ we generate the personal sovereignty, freedom, and flow that can only be discovered outside of our comfort zones. Whether a beginning or a somatic professional, chances are you will emerge from BraveSpace better able to navigate your boundaries, curiosities, and positioning in relationship with others. You’ll become a better dancer too—and dancers can do anything.
BraveSpace is built on many somatic foundations including Contact Improvisation and Authentic Movement. In offering it I am strongly influenced by my background in Modern Dance, Laban Movement Analysis, and Bodywork—primarily Myofascial and Craniosacral. As BraveSpace moves forward I see it as a training for those holding and wishing to hold body-based containers such as Ecstatic Dance, Somatic Psychotherapy, and Yoga, and Bodywork, as well as other work that honor the ‘mysteries’ of embodiment. Ultimately we are learning to embody and share non-ordinary states of consciousness. Our bodies know things our minds can never master.
BraveSpace Level 1 is being offered in a weekend format going forward, beginning Friday at 1pm and finishing Sunday by 4pm so that participants from out of town may travel same day if they choose. Level 1 is currently being offered May 6th-8th, 2022.
Level 1 bears repeating—the experiences deepen with practice and are different in each group constellation. More advanced levels of work/play will be coming soon. No experience is required—beginner and advanced practitioners will each gain from being together.
The cost to participate is $500-$800 on a voluntary sliding scale. Further work-trade may be available. Limited housing is available by donation. Meals are not included, and we can cook or order dinners together.
