Brazilian Zouk ABCs Workshop w Rachel Ashley

Are you brand new to Brazilian Zouk? Have you danced Brazilian Zouk before and want to refine your foundations and dive deeper into versatility and expression? If so, you are invited to join us for a three-hour workshop in Santa Fe with instructor Rachel Ashley. She will be guiding all “zoukinis” through the foundational ABCs of Brazilian Zouk informed by Ry’el’s ZenZouk Calligraphy curriculum. In this workshop, we will review and integrate the foundations and “alphabet” that we learned during Ry’el’s last workshop in February, while also offering some tips and variations for dancing different styles of Zouk. This workshop is appropriate for all-levels of Zouk dancers, including those who are brand new to Brazilian Zouk. You can come with or without a partner, and please bring socks and/or dance shoes that are not street shoes to wear during the workshop. This workshop will also prepare those who did not attend the February workshops to attend Ry'el's Brazilian Zouk Lambada Intensive Progressive Weekender in March!! Her passion started with a salsa class in 2003 that led to many years of studying different Latin dances. In 2008, Rachel was inspired to move to Buenos Aires to learn tango. Much to her surprise, she ended up falling in love with and learning Brazilian Zouk instead. The moment she saw a room full of Zouk dancers whipping their hair and body rolling, she knew she was in trouble! She spent the next twelve years of her life (the first few years as one of only a handful of Zouk teachers in the US), avidly studying and teaching this dance while helping to build Zouk communities around the country. With the intention to spread awareness, love, and community around this beautiful dance, she also began organizing festivals. In 2013, she organized Dances of Love Festival Hawaii, one of the first Zouk and Kizomba festivals in the US. She also served on the organizing board for the Grand Canyon Salsa Festival and later organized NCZoukFest, the first Zouk festival in North Carolina. Over that time, she was also booked as a featured Zouk artist at festivals and weekend events throughout the US. Alongside this outward journey, Rachel was also immersing herself in a deep and profound inward journey of meditation practices. She became a pioneer in creating destination retreats that combine Zouk, meditation, nature, and spiritual exploration. All of her classes and events include a flavor of these elements. Rachel currently resides in Jemez Springs, New Mexico. She still runs her organization, Embodied LLC and also works full-time for a Tibetan Buddhist organization. She is dedicated to spreading joyful awareness, loving kindness, embodied exploration, and compassionate connection through every event she offers.
