Come celebrate 250 years of America with music and storytelling created by African Americans, the people who have made the biggest advances over that time! The anniversary is a big one and worth celebrating. America is not without problems at the moment, and some of those have made partying about her more difficult, but there’s a whole lot of stories that shouldn’t get lost in the noise. Whoever the jerks are that get in the way for you, don’t let them win by keeping you from a magical day and appreciating that she still produces some amazing talent. Brother Yusef (from California) is not just one of the most popular musicians globally for blues dancers, he’s famous for his storytelling within blues. Charlley Ward (coming from Durham) is famous for his storytelling outside of blues. He’s an award winning storyteller as well as an award winning bluesman. Grey Armstrong (immediately coming from Turkey, ultimately from Ohio) understands how to use the power of stories to make the world a better place, whether by educating corporations or dancers, and also one of the blues world’s preeminent dance teachers. The venue, the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation, is a tribute to Archie’s Barbershop, a place where blues musicians, mostly immigrants from the South, came together and created the DC acoustic scene, which is most of what we in the dancer community refer to as Piedmont. You’ll be surrounded by treasured artifacts of blues history and dancing on a great floor.
