About this Event

Contact Improvisation is a movement form based on the spontaneous interaction between two people playing with mass, momentum, and gravity. Impulses, weight and velocity are communicated through a point of physical contact that involves mutual support and the cultivation of strength and sensitivity. In this workshop we will start with the fundamentals of Contact Improvisation: the contact point, weight sharing, pathways into the floor and into the air, and finding the root of levity. Martin spent time traveling to monasteries in Japan and Korea and was the director of the Empty Gate Zen Center in Berkeley before discovering the world of dance.
