Caboclo Spirit of Samba

To give oneself to dance is to experience the moving body as sacred.” ISC is thrilled to present the theme of the 2020 Congress: “CABOCLO SPIRITS OF SAMBA”!!!!! In 2019, we gathered in Los Angeles to celebrate the African Roots of Samba and pay homage to the struggles that gave rise to this art form and cultural expression. In 2020, we continue to explore the roots of Samba and its varieties, and honor the native Indigenous people who were the original inhabitants of the tropical lands we now call “Brasil”. We will gather together once again, this time to answer the Calls of the Caboclos and connect with the message from the spirits, the elements on nature, and the peoples of the Amazonian forest that are also an undeniable part of the rich Samba heritage. Drawing our inspiration from the moon, the sun, waterfalls, the rivers, and the virgin forests we will bring renewed meaning and awareness to the international Samba community on the need to preserve not only the essence of Samba but also the people who teach us how to fight for and preserve our good traditions.
