Caixa drum weekend workshop

🎶 Caixa Workshop Weekend in Oslo 06–08 February 2026 with Sebastian Merino (Peru/Sweden) & Anders Hansen (Norway) Join us for an intensive samba weekend dedicated to the Caixa, featuring two of Scandinavia’s most experienced samba musicians! Open for all ages; including kids and youths! Anyone who wants to continue to play more after the workshop is welcome to join our weekly lessons. 🥁 About the caixa A caixa is a snare drum used in samba baterias (percussion bands) in Brazil. It is essential for the rhythmic drive of the samba, with a short, dry and bright sound. Beginners will have the caixa hanging from a belt over their shoulder, so you don’t need to spend energy on holding it it. 🥁 About the Instructors Sebastian Merino is a highly skilled samba musician from Peru based in Gothenburg. He has played Caixa with Abunda and held various workshops over many years, performed with samba groups across Europe, and trained with renowned mestres from Rio de Janeiro. Sebastian is also a singer and cavaco player, performing regularly with Bloco X and Grupo Churrasco Na Brasa, where he is lead vocalist and cavaco player. His teaching style combines precision, groove, and passion for samba. Anders Hansen, founder and musical director of Oslo Sambaskole, has been a driving force in the Scandinavian samba community for over 20 years. Known for his structured and detailed teaching, he has led Oslo Sambaskole in major European festivals such as Coburg Samba Festival, and continues to develop samba culture in Norway. 📅 Workshop Schedule Friday 🕕 18:00–20:00 – Open level (Sebastian) Pulse, technique, and warm-up for all participants.
