It's been a great year for Calle Ocho (Leeds) this year. In September, we reached the impressive landmark of 4 years since we launched and we're still hitting around the 400-450 people figure each one (November 2014 hit 495), so we must be doing something right! To close 2014, we've lined up a fantastic Christmas Party. We see the return of some old friends and we're featuring 2 new specially themed rooms just for Christmas. Here's the details. ***The return of one of Yorkshire's original and favourite salsa sons NICOLAI V teaching a salsa class and doing a guest DJ spot*** ***The return of one of our original kizomba DJs DICO flying in from Lisbon*** ***A very special SOUL TRAIN third room featuring funk, soul, disco, old school hiphop, jazz-funk, 90s R'n'B and classic reggae*** ***By popular demand, a fourth small bachata room just of the main salsa room*** ***Guest soul/funk/hiphop DJ Martin "ShoeSoul" Reynolds in the soul room playing strictly vinyl alongside DJ Philip Charles (My Salsa My Soul)*** ***Resident Calle Ocho DJs Lubi, Fabio Bahia, Dr Salsa and Candja spinning across all 4 rooms playing salsa, soul, kizomba, bachata, reggaeton and afrobeats*** ***ProDanceFloors congress level Russian birch sprung wooden dancefloor in the salsa room*** ***VERY LIMITED BOX SET CALLE OCHO CD GIVEAWAY....all five of our previous mix CDs together in one boxed set, only a few available....details how to win one coming soon*** SALSA ROOM : 9pm - intermediates salsa class with Nicolai V. Yes, just 3 months after leaving Leeds, he couldn't stay away. It's great to have him back to the city for the first time at Calle Ocho. Come down early as his class starts promptly at 9pm and it will be packed. 10pm - salsa all styles (Puerto Rican, New Yorican, Cuban, Colombian, Venezuelan, salsa dura, salsa romantica, salsa clasica, salsa moderna) plus son Cubano, mambo, cha cha cha and bachata. DJs Lubi, Fabio Bahia, Dr Salsa and very special guest DJ NICOLAI V BACHATA ROOM 10.30pm - the small bachata room opens up playing non-stop bachata for the next 3-4 hours. SOUL TRAIN ROOM 11.30pm - DJ Lubi plus special guests MARTIN "ShoeSoul" REYNOLDS (ex-Salsoul/Hifi Club) and PHILIP CHARLES (Manteca/My Salsa My Soul) playing vintage funk, soul, disco, old school hiphop, jazz-funk, 90s R'n'B and classic reggae in the middle room! From James Brown to Grandmaster Flash, Aretha to Sugar Minott...come on people, get down and boogie, it's Christmas so let's have ourselves a funky good time :-) KIZOMBA/AFRO BEATS ROOM DJ CANDJA (Kizomba Manchester) holding it down as always in the conservatory with very special guest DICO, one of our original Calle Ocho DJs, dropping in from Lisbon to spin great music for us for the first time in over 2 years! Expect both DJs to be playing the freshest quality kizomba, tarraxina, ghetto zouk, semba, kuduru and afro beats. Plus we have three live PA's on the night from local Kizomba, Semba and Afro-house stars: Chefe Timber, Gun Jack and General W. Doors 9pm (salsa class) - clubnight 10pm - curfew 4am.
