A few years ago, the organisation of Floriade, brought to the city of Canberra a group of ‘silleteros’ from Medellin Colombia to share with us the tradition and the beauty of the Flower festival. The History behind the 'Silletero' started more than a century ago and this person was initially considered a mere transporter of merchandise for people from one place to another. As time went by, the farmers and country-dwellers of Santa Elena (little town of Medellin Colombia) create the wooden-frame called silleta that could also be used to transport and sell their flowers in the city of Medellín. Thanks to this idea, these simple “transporters of goods” called silleteros and became iconic characters of the city and have managed to get national and international recognition. Despite its longevity throughout history, the silleteros and the FERIA DE LAS FLORES has becoming strong as ever receiving international recognition who come to Medellin annually to witness this one-of-a-king event that fills the streets with Flowers. This upcoming Saturday 23th of August, we are bringing the happiness of a ‘Fiesta de las Flores’ to CANBERRA!!!!, with Flowers, music and a the best atmosphere to party all night! Music of Feria de las Flores: El Combo de Las Estrellas, El tropicombo, El Grupo Gale, Guayacan Orquesta, El grupo Niche, La 33, La Ocho among others.
