MARIA MULAMBO - will take you all the way to one of Brazil's most culturally rich areas – the Nordeste (or North East) - where an exciting folkloric dancing rhythm called Forró was born! It's an earthy, organic, melodic sound featuring vocals, accordion and sizzling Brazilian percussion with a similar rhythmic pulse to reggae. The dance element of forró encompasses expressive movements 'dangerously close together', that's now popular all over Brazil! Maria Mulambo features: Juliana Tenucci – voice Jorge Albuquerque – Bass Eduardo Gomes – Acoordion Newto Peres – Percussion Antonio Moreira – percussion .. sharing their sounds and culture from their homeland! Alongside Dj Paprika (Cutucada/Sabrosa Bris) making the trip down from tropical Brisbane to mix up a selection of dancefloor Nordeste sounds - forró, baião, xaxado, embolada, samba de côco, samba de côco and brazilian beats! Paprika has a strong history with Brazilian music. Aswell as Dj he's also an in demand Brazilian drummer in and around SE QLD playing for Zambabem (Samba Rock/MPB/Samba Soul), Malagueta (samba, partido alto), Jason Machado (MPB Samba Cancao), Som de Calçada, Yemanja, Baque Australis, and known for the Que Saudade Brazilian nights, and world/latin club session 'Cutucada'. He's supported some of Brazil's biggest name's in contemporary urban music Dj Marky, Marcelo D2, Sistema Criolina, Negra Li and has played alongside Theivery Corporation, Quantic, Norman Jay, Mo'Horizons, Gotan Project, Sharon Jones & The Dapkings. Together with fellow collector and DJ 'Pepe Sol' they founded the tropical musical collective Sabrosa (a project dedicated to the appreciation of afro tropical music).
