About this Event

Fiddle workshop with Lynn "Chirps" Smith on Illinois fiddle tunes! Chirps has taught workshops and classes all over the country, including the Berkeley Old Time Festival and Montana fiddle camp, among countless other festivals and camps. Instruments welcome but not necessary to attend. Come for the workshop, stay for the Barn Dance afterward featuring Chirps with his Volo Bogtrotter bandmate Steve Rosen, along with John Lane and Jay Desrosiers, with calling by Chet Gray. This is not to be missed!!! LYNN "CHIRPS" SMITH was born and raised in downstate Illinois. As a young man, he played with the Indian Creek Delta Boys and learned fiddle tunes directly from old-timers, including Harvey “Pappy” Taylor and Noah Beavers. This homemade music was transported to the Midwest by homesteaders who, bringing their fiddle tunes with them, multiplied them by learning new ones from their neighbors. Chirps became a regular player at Chicago Barn Dance Company’s dances after moving to Chicago in 1978. Since 1985, he has played lead fiddle in the Volo Bogtrotters string band and currently plays in the New Bad Habits. https://www.chirpssmith.com/ Like Midwest Sing & Stomp on Facebook, and donate to the fest at: http://singandstomp.com
