Các tác phẩm gần đây gồm “The Body as a Territory: Identity, Heritage and Cultural Violence” (2021), “Decolonization Praxis and the Art of Talking Disability” (2021 - 2022), “Approaching Care” (2024) và “Butching Cowboys” (2022 - 2024).

Some movements happen so fast we barely notice what we have done, and some are so slow that the person beside us has to stop and wait. In many places, slowness is still treated as something to fix, something to catch up on. This workshop begins from the opposite question: what if the rhythm of your own body, including the moments when you tire, pause, or have to begin again, is the very material for telling a story?
Anajara calls this “crip time”: the way disabled, chronically ill and neurodivergent people experience time differently from what society expects of them. It can be an off-beat rhythm, sometimes exhausting, but it can also be liberating: a rhythm bent to fit the body, instead of the body bent to fit the clock.
This is why, for Anajara, access is not something added once the work is nearly finished, but where everything begins. Soft light, a quiet room, the freedom to rest, to step out, to lie down halfway through: none of this makes choreography smaller. It opens up a different kind of choreography, where every body is welcomed at its own pace.
Anajara believes that movement is contagious. Once a body makes a movement, it no longer belongs to that body alone; it lives on in everyone who saw and felt it. To find their story, each participant chooses a more-than-human being they feel close to: an animal, a tree, a fungus, a stone. That being becomes an anchor, an extended version of oneself, something to return to, to move like, to tell a story through. Seen through the lens of nature, we are also reminded that the world has always been far more diverse than the norms we are used to, and that each of us is part of that diversity.
Over three afternoons, the workshop follows a gentle rhythm: time to arrive and check in with one another, guided movement exploration, a moment of relaxation, and a quiet space to write and ask questions. This is a relaxed workshop: you can move, step out, lie down or pause at any time, and no one is asked to use language about disability they are not comfortable with. The workshop is open to everyone and especially welcomes the participation of people with disabilities. If you have specific access needs, please share them in the registration form so we can prepare well.
As Anajara puts it, the goal is not resilience as an obligation, but connection, honesty, and the quiet pleasure of making something with your body in good company.
Anajara Laisa Amarante takes part in “Every Body in Motion” at the invitation of Goethe-Institut Hanoi.
🟠🟠 About the artist:
Anajara is a Brazilian crip and LGBTQ+ artist based in Berlin, working at the intersection of disability justice, dissident bodies, and the arts.
