Class: Adapting Shapes ~ moving like water; & Jam with *Live Music*

CLASS 6-7:30pm JAM 7:30-9pm -- START TIME -- Class starts promptly at 6pm, so please arrive before to allow time for check-in. -- ENTRANCE FEE -- $20 for the whole night, whether you go to the class and/or jam. -- FINANCIAL ACCESSIBILITY -- A discount of 50% is available for marginalized peoples, such as BIPOC and LGTBQIA+ folx and those who are experiencing financial hardship..... or pay what you can; NOTAFLOF. -- CLASS DESCRIPTION -- An exploration of bodies as fluid, and how yielding to this liquidity can inform and inspire your dance. You will be invited to fine tune your perception, sensing your inner waters to more skillfully - and playfully - adapt, soften, and let them move you. -- CLASS INSTRUCTOR -- João Paulo Pereira started improvising in contact in the mid 2000's in their homeland, Brazil, and has been exploring and sharing different somatic movement practices for over 20 years. Their most recent and greatest somatic passion is dancing in water, and they are thrilled to bring the harvest of this exploration to land dancing. -- MUSIC -- LIVE music with eO this Wednesday! eO is an innovative, genre-bending composer, producer, and sound designer, known for crafting immersive musical experiences that bridge the worlds of sound, movement, and community connection. With a kaleidoscopic style that blends lush textures, spacious grooves, and rhythmic intricacies, his work invites audiences into rich, interactive soundscapes. With a sensitivity shaped by years of performing and facilitating experiences (like Monkey Chant!), eO masterfully balances subtlety and intensity, sculpting cinematic musical landscapes that resonate deeply with listeners. It has been an important part of grounding into this community for me. I plan to offer an attuned, musical playscape that contains lots of space and an open invitation to vocalize throughout the whole experience. Alternating between sound & silence, movement & stillness, active & passive energies... I look forward to sharing live trumpet, xaphoon, and suling solos along with keyboard textures, spacious grooves, and evocative sound design. I'll also have some special guests join me. Classically, CI has been done in total silence, so even when there is music, the emphasis is not on how it "moves us". Do you know of folks who are proficient in improvising music for movement? Send their info our way! -- CLOTHING REQUEST -- * Bring 1 or 2 changes of clothes, if you are prone to saturating your clothes with sweat while dancing. * Wear clothing that will keep your butt, genitals and nipples covered while moving in non-linear and unpredictable ways. * Don't wear strong fragrances. -- SPACE ACCESSIBILITY -- The movement space is on the 2nd floor, accessible by the stairs or via an elevator in the back of the building.
