***CLASS 7:15-8:15pm*** ***JAM 8:15-9:30pm*** -- START TIME -- Class starts promptly at 7:15pm, so please arrive by 7pm to allow time for check-in. -- ENTRANCE FEE -- $20 for the whole night, whether you go to the class and/or jam. -- FINANCIAL ACCESSIBILITY -- A discount of 50% is available for marginalized peoples, such as BIPOC and LGTBQIA+ folx and those who are experiencing financial hardship..... or pay what you can; NOTAFLOF. -- CLASS DESCRIPTION -- Experiments in Improvisation: Unlearning Movement Patterns My invitation in this class is for us to befriend gravity even more as dancers, dropping into our bodies with some somatic, playful, curious floor-work. From there, we will create dynamic connections with one another exploring different scores: we'll research when, how, and why we initiate movement and connection, and we'll also create space for our bodies to both move and be moved in unfamiliar and unusual ways, at times harnessing tools such as imagery, co-creation, and active witnessing. -- CLASS FACILITATOR -- João Paulo Pereira started improvising in contact in the mid 2000's in their homeland, Brazil, and has been exploring and sharing somatic movement for over 20 years. You can find them facilitating contact-like experiences in warm water around the Bay Area, traveling overseas to train yoga therapist, or on the mat sharing their bodywork practice. Researching playful and attuned ways to instill a 'less ambition, more curiosity' mindset in themself and other dancers is João's greatest inspiration in CI. You can follow them on www.basayoga.com -- MUSIC -- Some silence, some pre-recorded music; always inviting of personal sound, interpretation and expression, while minding the whole room. -- CLOTHING REQUEST -- * Bring 1 or 2 changes of clothes, if you are prone to sweating while dancing. * For C.I., the more skin coverage, the better/easier we glide and flow. Pants & long sleeves is usually folks' preferred outfit. * All must wear clothing that will keep butt, genitals and nipples covered while moving in non-linear and unpredictable ways. * Don't wear strong fragrances. * Please remove jewelry. -- SPACE ACCESSIBILITY -- The movement space is on the 2nd floor, accessible by the stairs or via an elevator in the back of the building.
