Class: Off-Axis, the Joy of Three Dimensions w Marcus van Duren + JAM

CLASS 6-7:30pm JAM 7:30-9pm -- START TIME -- Class starts promptly at 6pm, so please arrive before to allow time for check-in. -- ENTRANCE FEE -- $20 for the whole night, whether you go to the class and/or jam. -- FINANCIAL ACCESSIBILITY -- A discount of 50% is available for marginalized peoples, such as BIPOC and LGTBQIA+ folx and those who are experiencing financial hardship..... or pay what you can; NOTAFLOF. -- CLASS DESCRIPTION -- Off-Axis: the joy of three dimensions In this class we will look at how we can invite more three dimensionality into our dances, using the tri-axial nature of the spine to inspire and inform our exploration. We will first explore some movement principles on our own and then begin to investigate the fractal potential of the principles with a partner. More specifically, this class will look at how we can fluidly come in and out of contact and create the circumstances for organic lifts/suspension to happen. -- CLASS FACILITATOR -- Marcus van Duren is a dancer, teacher and musician based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has been teaching contact improvisation classes and workshops locally in California since 2015, and seasonally travels internationally to teach and study. Marcus has been intensively studying movement and dance since his discovery of contact improvisation in 2012. Shortly after, he delved into contemporary dance and the invaluable information of The Axis Syllabus. Marcus is an active member of the axis syllabus community and is currently a Teacher Candidate. In his teaching, Marcus seeks to marry technique and play in a way that leaves students with a felt sense of essential principles and gives them jumping off points for further research. This is an indoor venue with a heater/AC system. Masks are optional.
